Safety Certifications and Features to Look For
Before buying any geyser, verify ISI certification. It is mandatory for electric geysers sold in India and confirms the product meets minimum safety and performance standards. Do not buy a geyser without this mark.
Storage geysers must comply with IS 2082:2018, the Indian standard for electric immersion water heaters. Instant geysers must meet IS 302 Part 2/Sec 35:2017, the standard for instantaneous water heaters. These standards cover safety and performance for household use and are enforced by law.
Three safety features are essential in every geyser. A thermal cut-off stops the heating element if water temperature rises too high, preventing scalding and equipment damage. A pressure release valve prevents the tank from rupturing under excessive pressure that builds up as water heats. A multi-function safety valve combines thermal and pressure protection in one unit. Check that your chosen geyser includes all three. These are not optional extras; they are vital protections.
Proper earthing protects you from electrical shock when you use the geyser. Never attempt to install a geyser yourself; the combination of electricity and water is hazardous.
