MCB Selection Standards for Distribution Panels: What Indian Standards Require
Indian Standards require MCBs to be selected by breaking capacity (4.5–25 kA), tripping curve type (B, C or D), pole count, and rated current. Breaking capacity must exceed the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point. Rated current must protect the cable, not the load. Pole configuration must match system earthing and isolation needs.
